How to choose the best nail salon in West Palm Beach
Every salon says it is the best one, which makes the word useless. These are the six things that genuinely differ between salons — all of them checkable before you book, here or anywhere else.
01How do they take enhancements off?
This is the single most revealing question, because almost all the damage people blame on gel and acrylic happens at removal rather than application. The answer you want is a soak: the top layer filed off, acetone held against the nail until the product softens, then gentle pressure — never prying, never filing down to the plate.
A salon that files a set off quickly to save ten minutes is filing into your nail. You will feel the difference two sets later, not on the day, which is why it is worth asking before rather than after.
At Utopia. We soak sets off and buff gently. Acrylic removal starts at $15 and gel colour removal at $10. If you are having a new set applied the same visit, mention it when you call so the time is allowed for.
02What happens to the tools between guests?
There are two categories. Metal implements — nippers, pushers, clippers — can be sterilised, and should be, in an autoclave between every client. Anything porous — files, buffers, wooden sticks, toe separators — cannot be properly disinfected and should be single-use and discarded.
Pedicure equipment is its own question. A pipeless chair drains and wipes down completely; a jetted system circulates water through internal plumbing that is far harder to verify. Ask which they have.

03Is the price agreed before the work starts?
A posted menu is the baseline. The real test is what happens when your set is not a plain full set — extra length, a sculpted shape, art on four nails. Those are legitimate extras, and they should be quoted to you before a brush is picked up, not added at the till.
If you cannot get a number before the work begins, that is the answer to the question.

04Are they licensed, and can you check?
Florida licenses both the salon and each individual nail specialist through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Both licences should be displayed where you can see them, and both can be looked up on the state website in about a minute.
A current licence is a floor, not a ceiling — it tells you the salon meets a legal minimum, not that the technician is good. But its absence tells you plenty.

05Are they open when you are actually free?
The best salon you cannot get to is not the best salon. Weekend and evening availability, and whether walk-ins are genuinely accommodated or merely tolerated, decide whether you go once or go regularly.
Worth checking the hours on Google rather than only on the website, and worth noticing whether the two agree — when they do not, the business is not maintaining its listing.

06Can you see recent work, not stock photos?
Stock photography is the easiest tell there is. Real galleries have inconsistent lighting, real hands, and the occasional set that is clearly someone’s specific request rather than a catalogue look.
Look for work in the style you actually want. A salon with a wall of chrome and none of the soft natural sets you had in mind is telling you something useful about where its strengths are.

07What do the reviews say about the six above?
Star ratings are a blunt instrument. What is worth reading for is whether recent reviews mention the things on this list — whether people talk about cleanliness, about being quoted honestly, about a technician taking their time. Those specifics are much harder to manufacture than a rating.
